What is the best disposable if I want the least amount of chemicals?

by Lori
(Du Quoin, IL)

I use cloth and have since my 10-month-old was born. However, he's not the best sleeper, and from time to time I've had issues with my cloth leaking when I leave him in them for 12 hours. He still nurses once at night, but I don't like to change him because it wakes him too much and he has trouble going back to sleep.

I need a good disposable that has almost no chemicals and can hold up at night. I have (sigh) been using Huggies Overnights, but I'm looking for something different. I've considered Seventh Generation and Earth's Best.

Thank you,

Lori

Hi Lori, given the options you listed, I'd go with Seventh Generation diapers. I do also use some chlorine-free store brand diapers like or the 365 Whole Foods Brand or Full Circle because they cost less and promise the same benefits. This recommendation is solely based on my personal experience with various brands of disposables.

Another option listed on the green diaper guide on our site, is Broody Chick. They are marketed as 100% compostable which causes me to assume they have less chemicals - emphasis on assume. That said I have used them and they had no fragrances and dyes, giving me the impression that its a pretty "clean" diaper.

When time permits, I'd love to research your question further by contacting various brands to see if they will disclose chemicals as I notice most don't do that on their packaging.

Thanks for writing,

Erika
