I am always in search of the safest products for my baby. Your site has been helpful, but you really should reevaluate your recommendation for Robeez shoes. I bought several for my son after reading your recommendation. I went on their website recently and read their brief, two sentences on their Safety Standards. I was concerned to read that they tested for surface lead only. I called to make sure lead, along with other toxins, were also tested for in other parts of the shoe. To my surprise, I was told that all I could be told was that the shoes complied with U.S. standards. I was told that was all their lawyers would allow. ??? What does that mean specifically? Who knows? I asked about their Safety Standards' statement on complying with Canadian standards. It seems their two sentences for Safety Standards are outdated. Robeez was bought by Stride Rite and is made in China now. The very kind Robeez employee did call me back and asked for every number printed on the inside of the shoes to check if each individual shoe was safe. I am a little horrified that the Robeez company couldn't make a safety statement covering ALL of their shoes, but had to check each pair individually! And my call back only said lead free and choking hazard free. What about other toxins? I will not buy Robeez anymore. Bobux shoes are very specific on the safety of their shoes. Look them up. Pediped also seems safe, but not as specific on toxicity as Bobux.
OBR's Response
Hi Michelle,
Thank you for the message you sent about Robeez shoes. I wanted you to know that I am in the process of researching some of the leather baby shoe manufacturers and plan on making some revisions and/or writing a new article about this topic. My research was prompted by a similar message I received from another parent and affirmed by yours. Thanks so for reading and thanks for sharing the due diligence you found in your research.
We strive to provide the most accurate information about the products featured on our site and your message helps us do that.
All the best,
