Product Review: Natures Paradise ™ Natural Organic Baby Skin Care
Natures Paradise ™ Product Review Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Upon learning about all the hazards in conventional baby skin care products, I threw all the traditional baby cosmetics in the trash; the yellow stuff, the pink stuff, the white stuff. I wasn't putting anymore phthalates or parabens on my baby. We improvised for a while, but baths without soap got old pretty fast. Thus, my hunt for certified organic skin care for babies began. I searched the internet and found a few brands, one of them was Natures Paradise ™. I purchased the baby organic gift basket and was impressed by the pricing and the generous sizing of the products. The package came right away. I opened it and was surprised to find packing peanuts in the box. So was my daughter, but her surprise was pleasant. "Ooh, a foamy, tasty, treat," is what she must have been thinking. I spoke to the company about this and they told me the peanuts are biodegradable and made from cornstarch. I have called the company a few times, and each time I've found the customer service representative knowledgeable and courteous. My first call was about the organic alcohol listed among the ingredients on the scented products. The woman I spoke with explained that the alcohol was used as a means to extract the fragrance from the coconut. She assured me that if any alcohol was actually in the product, it was less than 2 percent. She added that the USDA organic certification standards requires Natures Paradise to disclose this information if there was any chance of it being in the lotion. She also told me the unscented version had no extract and no alcohol. I was satisfied with that straight answer and impressed that I didn't get the run around. I started using the product right away and I loved it. The coconut scent, is heavenly. It takes me back to me pre-child travels to the Mayan Riviera beaches, but it's not overkill. I am sensitive to smell, and could sit with this product all day long. However, all day long was too much for my daughter. I noticed small bumps on her face after using the coconut scented shampoo and body lotion. This wasn't anything alarming, a similar thing has happened with other scented products. I called Nature's Paradise ™ to see what they could do about it. They offered to replace the basket with the unscented line of products at no additional cost to me. I accepted. When the new products arrived, we did a spot test and got no reaction. I missed the coconut smell, but will just have to enjoy it on my own skin. Here's the breakdown on each product that came in our gift basket. Natures Paradise ™ Massage Oil
This blend of safflower oil and sunflower oil is light and comes in a pump that allows it to be mess-free. Use it as a massage oil, total body moisturizer, or conditioning treatment for your baby's scalp.Nature's Paradise ™ Baby Lotion The lotion is made with a base of jojoba oil, sunflower oil, coconut oil and shea butter. What struck me about it was the nice, creamy thickness. It wasn't too thick and it wasn't too thin. And the best part was it moisturized my baby's skin for hours at a time. The unscented lotion has a bit of a nutty smell, but it goes away as soon as it is absorbed into the skin. This also works as a hair moisturizer for my daughter's curly hair. Nature's Paradise ™ 2 in 1 Body Wash and Shampoo I like this one a lot, because it comes in a pump bottle and foams. The ingredient list is simple: water and saponified coconut oil. The company's website says the body wash has been rated #1 for safe shampoos on the skin deep database. It really does work as a shampoo and body wash. However, they have added a second formula for those who desire a shampoo with more conditioning properties. Nature's Paradise ™ Hand Sanitizer This product is nice to have in our diaper bag. We use it when we sit down at restaurants and take comfort in the fact that the ingredients are all organic. According to the Natures Paradise ™ website, the sanitizer kills 99.9% of all germs without water. That sounds a bit extreme, but I prefer it over a trip to some of the bathrooms we encounter in public places. Natures Paradise ™ Baby Powder We don't use powder in our baby's diaper area, but this talc-free organic powder is simply arrowroot powder. The scented version also contains coconut powder. Arrowroot powder is safe to use in cooking, so I imagine we'll use this when she starts to get sweaty feet in the not too far future. Nature's Paradise ™ Diaper Rash Cream
My daughter rarely gets diaper rash, so we had no reason to open this right away. However, we have discovered this balm is even more moisturizing than the body lotion. It goes on lighter and is great for her hair. I know it may sound strange, but when the only are ingredients are organic soy bean oil, sunflower oil and shea butter, the cream can be pretty versatile. My Recommendation In essence, I like all of the products and find them versatile enough to use on myself. However, this May, Natures Paradise ™ introduced a full line of adult body care products. If coconut doesn't float your boat, perhaps one of the other ten scents you have to choose from will.
