Natures Baby Organics

Performance Rating: 4.0 out of 5 stars

I met the founder of Natures Baby Organics at a baby products expo and received samples of products so I could tell you what I thought about them.

As I researched the company's products, I discovered the products fall into two categories:

  1. USDA 95% certified organic (this means all individual ingredients used are organic unless they are not available organically.)
  2. Made with certified organic ingredients (this means that in addition to certified organic ingredients, the product may also contain natural oils and fragrances that are not certified organic as well as added preservatives and synthetic ingredients.

You can learn more about the differences in these labels on this page. However, this review will only focus on the products I tried that are USDA certified organic.

Why? Because I believe that when it comes to organic baby skin care the ingredient list should be as simple as possible. Looking for the USDA's seal of approval is one of the easiest ways to discern what is organic and what is not.

So as we normally do, we'll take a look at each individual product we tried and its ingredients to make an assessment.

Organic Baby Oil

Ingredients: Helianthis Annum (Sunflower) seed oil*, Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil*,Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Cocus Nucifera (Coconut) Oil *, Calophyllum Tacamahaca (Tamanu) Oil*,Citrus Reticulata (Mandarin) Oil*.(*certified organic ingredient)

I recognized all of these ingredients right away with the exception of tamanu oil and mandarin oil. From this profile I learned that Tamanu is an oil found in the Tamanu Tree which is native to the South Pacific. The oil is used to heal scars, inflammation and a host of other ailments.

Mandarin oil comes from the mandarin tree which is part of the orange family. The oil comes from the peel of the mandarin and it's citrus aroma is known to lift the spirits. You can read more about the benefits of mandarin in this ezine article.

I liked the consistency of the baby oil from Natures Baby Organics and it's ability to moisturize from head to toe. It also appears that each ingredient is certified organic.

Organic Soothing Stick

Ingredients: Helianthis Annum (Sunflower) Seed Oil*, Cera Alba (Beeswax)*, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil*, Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil*, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)*, Calophyllum Tacamahaca (Tamanu) Oil*, Tocopherol (non GMO), Arthemis Nobilis (Chamomile)*.(*certified organic ingredient)

All of these ingredients are common in skin care. Tocopherol is Vitamin E. and Non GMO means that it has not been genetically modified.

I actually bought this product myself because my daughter had a play-date gone wrong. She had three scratches on her face, so we applied this everyday once or twice a day to help with healing.

Several weeks later her skin seems to be healing fine. I especially like the stick container, which allows for easy, mess-free application.

Ah-Choo Chest Rub

Ingredients: Helianthis Annum (Sunflower) Seed Oil*, Cera Alba (beeswax)*, Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil*, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil*, Eucalyptus Globulus*, Lavendual Augustifolia*, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Oil*, Tocopeherol.(*certified organic ingredient)

In this case I looked up Eucalyptus globulus and learned that is an essential oil from the evergreen tree. Lavendual Augustifolia is essential oil form english lavendar, while Tea tree oil comes from the myrtle tree and is often used to fight infections.

Knock on wood - we have not had a cold since we got this product sample, but I like the way this smells: minty and capable of clearing up a clogged nose and chest.

Features to Love

  • I do like that I can pick Natures Baby Organics products up at a grocery store near my house.
  • The fragrances used are natural, mild and calming.
  • All of the product packaging is attractive, waterproof, easy to open and spill-proof.

Room for Improvement

I'm hoping that more of the Natures Baby Organics product line can become USDA certified organic.

While I tried the Shampoo and Body Wash and Detangling Conditioner, and found them effective (and rather yummy in terms of appearance and smell), I did get overwhelmed by the number of ingredients involved in the formulas. I had to look up quite a few of the ingredients on the label because I didn't recognize them as food grade items. However, according to the USDA guidelines, a product with a "made with certified organic ingredient" label is not allowed to contain synthetic ingredients.

Bottom Line

I'd recommend all of the USDA certified organic products we tried from Natures Baby Organics. Now that my daughter is 2.5 years old and I know she is not sensitive to essential oils, we enjoy the natural fragrances the oils add to the body oil.

The Achoo Chest Rub and Organic Soothing Stick are two unique products that round out the organic baby's medicine cabinet for the inevitable case of congestion, scratches and scrapes.

In addition to grocery and retail stores you can find Natures Baby Organics products on Amazon.
