Homemade costumes are the greenest. They allow you to choose breathable fabrics like cotton and linen.
You can also save money by mixing accessories with elements of the child's existing wardrobe. I also love it when my daughter wants to be a princess, because she wears it around the house all year long.
Don't worry if you're not a seamstress. All you need is an idea and some patience. For inspiration look at your child's favorite toys, television shows or hobbies.
For example, I saw a child dressed like a blue lego. Her mom cut holes into a box, painted it blue and drew on the round grooves on the top. Another child was dressed like an iphone. Mom painted the screen and the back of the phone on cardboard panels and attached them to straps over the child's shoulders.
My daughter's pre-school class made piano costumes out of linen pillowcases and black felt and markers. Underneath they wore black shirts and pants. On their heads they wore headbands with a sheet of music and glitter musical notes attached.
Below are some organic versions of traditional candy. You can pair these edible treats with stickers, pencils or chalk. In other words, go for things they like everyday and your treats will be a hit!
