G Diapers: An Earth Conscious Choice for Parents

If you are looking for a compromise between cloth and disposable nappies, g diapers may be the answer. I have used them and they do address the issue of convenience, chemicals, and the creation of landfill waste.

On top of that they are irresistibly cute. Colors like got chocolate brown, global blue and giggle pink tempt you to let your baby go without pants in the summer months.

Here are some other facts to help you decide if these eco-friendly flushables are for you and your baby:

  • The outer fabric is made of 92% cotton and 8% elastane or spandex. The inside of the outer pants are made of 100% nylon polyurethane coated. The snap-in liner is made of polyurethane coated polyester.

  • The flushable refill, the part that actually touches your baby's bottom is made of viscose rayon, a natural polymer that comes from trees.

  • The inside of the flushable is made of soft, fluffed wood pulp and super absorber, which comes from forests using an elemental-chlorine-free (ECF) process.

Note that pulp bleached using an ECF process is bleached with chlorine dioxide instead of elemental chlorine.

  • The manufacturer does not indicate that any of these components are made with organic materials.

  • Blowouts can and do occur as with any other option. If you are breastfeeding and your baby has more liquid like bowel movements, than you'll spend more time hand rinsing the soiled liner and outer pants.

I will say that my husband is better at assembling them to minimize leakage, so you should be fine if you follow the instructions.

  • The starter kit comes with a swisher to break up the flushable inside the toilet before flushing. Once you get the hang of it, it's not so bad. We've had no instances of the toilet being clogged.

  • The flushable diapers do contain about 4 grams of Super Absorbent Polymers (SAP). SAP is the same gel used in disposables.

Gdiapers are a user-friendly product that make many moms happy as they reduce their children's exposure to toxic chemicals. They require less cleaning and of course result in reduced landfill waste. If you want to reduce your carbon footprint, but need the convenience of dispose 'n go than these diapers may be just for you.

You can find starter kits in three sizes and flushable refills on Amazon.com.
