Swaddlebees Hook And Loop

The more cloth diapers I try, the less I am on the fence about what is the best choice for me next time around (for my pocket book and my baby's bottom). I sampled the new Econappi diaper made by Swaddlebees and here are my thoughts.

Room For Improvement

I don't care for the hook and loop (Velcro) closure, which is the style I tried. Depending on how I put the diaper on, the velcro came in contact with the skin. My daughter said, " and reached for her hip the first couple of times I put it on. Sure enough, I had it bundled up around her hips, rather than smooth and contoured.

I also noticed some irritated skin around her hips when it wasn't put on just right. The velcro seemed to be in the way.

Nevertheless it was a learning moment. Now I know I have a preference for the snap closure style when choosing cloth diapers. This way I don't have to fuss with pinning down my mobile toddler to get it closed perfectly. This is one of many choices you make when shopping for organic diapers.

Editor's Update:

A week after posting this review, I did figure out how to close the diaper without the velcro touching my daughter's skin. There are two white, square velcro guides on the inside of the back of the diaper. If you make sure those pieces of velcro come in contact with the velcro on the front of the diaper, you shouldn't have any velcro rubbing against your child's hips. This also makes for a much tighter or more snug fit.

Swaddlebees Snap Diaper

The diapers are effective at doing what you need them to do, while at the same time, luxuriously soft and fashionable on the inside and outside. The also have the benefits of being made with organic cotton fabric (pesticide-free, added durability and absorbency).

While the diapers come at a premium over the non-organic diapers that Swaddlebees offers, they are equitable with the company's other organic options when you factor in that you don't need a separate cover or inserts for the diaper.

All of this adds up to convenience and a diaper that you can use throughout your entire diapering experience at a discount over disposables of any kind.

Furthermore, Ecnappi's mix fashion and functionality with more eco-benefits than your standard cloth diaper. So I'd recommend giving the Swaddlebee Econappi One-Size Cloth Diaper diapers a try, just determine which type of closure you like before buying in bulk.

Q " A with the Founder:

Why did you feel it was important to create the Econappi?

The Econappi was created in response to the market's demand for a one size diaper lined with natural/organic fibers. At the time I created it, the one-size pocket diaper concept was growing, and every other cloth diaper manufacturer was coming out with their own version of a one size pocket diaper. But nobody was making them with organic cotton lining and everybody was making them with synthetic materials. And the diapers that were being made with organic cotton required a separate cover. So I created the Econappi, which is a one size pocket diaper lined with organic cotton.
