Shopping 'til I drop
If your city has one, a children's museum can be a great resource for unstructured, pretend play time for your toddler. We visited the McKenna Children's Museum in San Antonio and had a blast.
The museum was structured like a small city which included a toddler-sized grocery store, kitchen, bank, printing press, camping site emergency-room, fitness center, space shuttle and a lot more.
Everything was my daughter's height and intended for touching. The place inspires the little ones' imaginations and encourages confidence. Believe me, we ran into a few children who had convinced themselves that they ran the place.
Also if you want to see what quirky little things you do from day-to-day, just watch your child mimic you in these grown up settings.
Once your child is finished pretending, he or she can take place in some painting, coloring or outdoor water play.
The museum also runs summer camps and other structured children's activities throughout the year.
