I've been on the hunt for toddler feeding utensils that encourage more independence while minimizing the mess. I purchased some of the Boon Inc. products to see if they could meet the need. We tried the sippy cup and snack ball. Here are the findings:
Fluid No-spill Toddler Cup
Pros
- This is one cool looking sippy cup.
- The dough nut hole in the middle makes for easy grasping by little hands.
- The water flow comes through a small slit in the lid of the cup. The flow is light, perfect for beginning drinkers.
- The cup is ergonomically designed. The flow increases when you tip the cup back with your hands and is maximized when you tip your head back slightly. Older toddlers, 18 months + may want a little more flow.
- The cap pops on and off, which is convenient for refilling.
- The cup is free of Bisphenol-A (BPA), Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) and Phthalates.
Cons
- The packaging says the cup is no spill, which is somewhat true. For example, if your toddler were to knock the cup over on the table or carpet, you wouldn't have more than a drop or two come out. But if the cup falls over in your diaper bag and gets jostled, the other contents can get wet. I wish it came with a little cap or covering to keep the liquid contained during travel.
- The bottom of the cup is not easily accessible for scrubbing, so stick with water and/or don't let other types of drinks sit in the cup for prolonged periods of time, because the build up or stains would be difficult to remove.
Pros
- This product is also cool looking and highly functional. The lid slides open and shut, at first it takes an adult hand to get it open, but my daughter is able to close it with no problem.
- I like the fact that the ball unscrews at the halfway point for easy washing.
- The ball itself and the opening are small and perfect size for toddler-sized hands.
- The ball is BPA, PVC and Phthalate-free.
Cons
I will have to teach my daughter to close it before she falls asleep in her car seat. Once she dozes off the ball goes a rollin' and hits the floor.
My Recommendations:
All in all I was happy with both of these Boon feeding products. They are reasonably priced
with a slight premium for their uniqueness. The snack ball is highly innovative and perfect for traveling with dry snacks. Both products are great for babies 9 months and up. I recommend them both; especially for trend-setting parents.
