My Skin Care Problem

Since becoming a mom, I confess total neglect when it comes to any skin care regimen for my face. There's more shame than glory in that statement.

For most of my adult life I am fortunate to have had a "baby face" that didn't require much more than wash 'n go.

However, after considerably less sleep than in my pre-mom days and less facial protection from makeup and sunscreen, my age, as they say, "is starting to show".

I'm a little puffy under the eyes and seeing more sun spots than ever-yikes. So being the solution-oriented person that I am, I'm working to put myself back on my schedule and need a simple, relatively inexpensive, certified organic solution for cleansing my face.

A Possible Solution

Enter Natures Paradise, who makes one of my favorite organic skin care lines for babies.

They have introduced an anti aging skin care line called Per Sempre Gi'ovane Italy, which translates into "Forever Young Italy" (the name makes me think of the romance in the book and movie Under The Tuscan Sun - I'm sure that's what Natures Paradise had in mind too:).

Instead of chemicals, the products rely on natural alternatives such as Argan oil, Green Tea, Apple Cider Vinegar, Shea Butter, essential oils and Pomegranate extract to reverse the wear and tear of daily living and neglect.

At first glance the anti-aging skin care line meets my requirements. It is USDA certified organic, contains five (I tried four of them) easy-to-use products and the individual prices range from $4.99 to $39.99. So sampling them was a no-brainer for me.

Below is a listing of the products I've tried and my experiences with them:

• Gi'ovane Italy Organic Foam Cleanser

  The cleanser is step one and it's my favorite, because it smells so good. The liquid pumps out into a foam, which allows you to use it with out wasting any and to skip the face cloth if you so desire.

  The base is a coconut oil soap, which leaves you feeling clean and refreshed, while the Argan oil restores moisture. (Comes in 2 oz. and 6 oz. bottles)

• Gi'ovane Italy Organic Clarifying Toner

  The toner serves to deep clean the pores and even out your complexion. The primary ingredient is Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, which is supposed to be a natural bacteria fighting agent.

  As vinegar, does the toner smells a little bitter (but with an apple twang). If you aren't used to toning your skin you may experience a bit of a sting. To use, you dab a cotton ball on your face until the cotton ball is clean. It will probably require more than one.

• Gi'ovane Italy Firming Serum & Moisturizer

  Argan oil, which is used in the cosmetics industry for its anti aging skin care properties, is the primary ingredient in this product. The oil is high in vitamins E and F and can only be found in Morroco. Argan oil is also said to be filled with antioxidants which prevents free radical damage from the sun.

  By the way, the 1 oz. label on the packaging is misleading. This should last as long as the rest of the products because you only need to pump a small amount to hydrate your face.

• Gi'ovane Italy Firming Eye Cream

  This product contains Organic Shea Butter, Argan Oil, Green Tea and Palm Stearin, a free radical fighting a antioxidant that comes from palm trees.

  The ingredients work together to hydrate, tighten and reduce puffiness in skin around the eyes and the lips. While it feels a little greasy at first, it is quickly absorbed into the skin.

In addition to these products they have a Gi'ovane Italy Eye Makeup Remover, I haven't yet tried this, but it too contains only organic ingredients.

As if that wasn't enough, I did get to try two other facial products from the Natures Paradise Organic Spa line:

• Organic Spa Facial Cleanser

  This is similar to the other cleanser, minus the Argan oil and Pomegranate extract. It is fragranced with essential oils, which gives you an "I just left the spa" feeling.

• Organic Spa Facial Oil

  This contains Argan Oil and several other essential oils, This light oil is perfect for daily moisturizing or a relaxing face massage.

Anti Aging Skin Care Line Pros

• All of the products smell and feel refreshing.
• The ingredient lists are simple and straight forward.
• The directions on the packaging are clear and easy-to-follow.
• Immediately after using the products, my skin seems to glow.
• The containers are non-breakable and the shipping is eco-friendly. I also like the modern simplicity of the packaging and branding.

Anti Aging Skin Care Line Cons

• The labeling on the packaging has a tendency to chip and fade. To keep them nice and legible, don't get them wet and don't let your toddler play with the bottles.

• The hardest part for me, was going from doing nothing for my face, to consistently pampering myself with multiple products. But moms deserve moments of indulgence too.

  So until the routine becomes second nature, I'll have to lock myself in the bathroom twice a day (once in the morning and once at night) and recreate the popular '80s commercial by saying, "Natures Paradise, take me away!"

• I recommend all of the Gi'ovane anti aging skin care products. You can ease your way in, trying the products one by one or save about $15.00 on the entire organic anti aging set.
